Work Based Learning
Why Get Involved with Work-Based Learning?
Participating in work-based learning during high school allows learners to gain real-world experience, helping them develop practical skills and explore potential career paths. It builds professional networks and enhances their resumes, giving them a competitive edge for future job opportunities or college applications, and helps students connect classroom learning to real-life situations.

Work-Based Learning Courses
West Fargo Public Schools is excited to offer several work-based learning experiences for our students. These experiences range from a one-time job shadow to a semester-long work experience. All interested learners must book an appointment with their Career Advisor to discuss the work-based learning experience they wish to complete.
For more information about our current Work-Based Learning courses please refer to the West Fargo Public Schools Course Catalog, pages 47-48.
Job Shadows
The Career Center offers job shadow experiences for students in 9-12th grade. Through this experience, students can spend a few hours with a professional in a career of interest to gain first-hand information about the occupation and necessary post-secondary training.
Students are required to book an appointment with their Career Advisor to complete an application, review the job shadow packet, and cover expectations. In addition, learners are responsible for completing school assignments before the experience. Please note that not all job shadow requests can be arranged due to employer confidentiality and liability issues, and access to professionals in the field.
